America produces over 250,000 tons of garbage annually with 55% or 138,000 tons ending up in a landfill. This averages to 4.6 pounds per person each and every day and a little over 2.5 pounds of it ends up in a landfill. As our recycling levels out, the number of landfills is decreasing. This causes the costs of disposing garbage to increase as the waste is carted further away from its source.
